Nyctophilia II at CAN Christina Androulidaki Gallery

20.09.2020

Night owls, insomniacs and burners of the midnight oil are bound to be attracted like moths to the new group show at CAN Christina Androulidaki gallery, open through October 10th. The show presents five Greek and one Cypriot artist from the gallery’s roster, with works selected for their darker mood and nocturnal subject matter. The wee hours are “the best time to read poetry” the gallery release reminds us, but are also a time when fears are confronted and the veil that separates reality from imagination is at its most permeable. The six artists at the exhibition were selected not just for their preference for the colour black; their work consistently deals with issues of internal conflict, heavy thinking and fragile flights of fancy — all of which somehow occur naturally when the sun is down and the world is asleep.
